The Vigilance police on Thursday arrested Samir Kumar Thakur, Deputy Executive Engineer in Bhawanipatna Municipality, on the charge of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. He was then forwarded to the Vigilance Special Judge Court in Bhawanipatna and was sent to judicial custody till January 9, 2023.
A Vigilance team had earlier conducted raids on his properties and unearthed movable and immovable assets in his and family members’ names.
After thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Thakur were calculated and he was found in possession of disproportionate assets (DA) which are 218% higher than his known sources of income, Vigilance said in a release.
