A day after police rescued Patnagarh PWD Junior Engineer Jayakant Sabar, who was allegedly kidnapped on Thursday, his wife
Prabina Rajhans on Saturday alleged police inaction in the case.
She said that though more than 48 hours have passed since the incident, police were yet to take any action against the accused Patnagarh MLA Saroj Meher.
“I had lodged a complaint on June 6, but nothing has been done yet. I am very sad over police inaction,” she said.
She also claimed that there is a threat to her family members and due to that they would leave Patnagarh and go to their native village in Nuapada district. On the day, Balangir Diploma Engineers’ Association members held a demonstration here and demanded stringent action against MLA Meher for humiliating the Junior Engineer in public by forcing him to do sit-ups.
The Western Odisha Adivasi Council while condemning the incident appealed to the Chief Minister to take immediate action against the MLA.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan termed the incident as unacceptable and said elected representatives should be simple and humble and refrain themselves from hooliganism.
Balangir MP Sangita Singh Deo too condemned the incident and said, “The incident is unfortunate and not at all appropriate.”
