The Sundargarh police on Tuesday arrested and court-forwarded a Third Year engineering student allegedly for sending  obscene  and threatening messages through WhatsApp to his wife whom he had ditched a few months back.

According  to  sources,  Jayant  Pandey (22),  a  resident  of  Birmitrapur  and a Third Year engineering student at the Centurion  University  at  Jatani, had married secretly to his 19-year-old girlfriend of Kuanrmunda. The girl is also a First Year Plus Three student of the university.  They had been in love since they were studying in the Rourkela Municipal College.

As per the allegation of the  girl, Jayant used to keep  physical  relationship  with  her while staying in hotels at different places, including Puri.  Jayant  brought the girl to  his  house  at  Birmitrapur  and  kept  her  there for some days till his family members rejected  her.

On  November 22, 2017,  she had lodged  an  FIR  against Jayant  and  his  family members  at the Rourkela  Women police  station. However, Jayant managed to get an anticipatory bail from the High Court.

On February 11, the girl, her  mother  and  two women Samiti members of  Kuanrmunda  reached  Jayant’s  house  and  demanded that the  victim  be  allowed to  stay with the family. However, Jayant’s family members locked the door  from  inside.

Infuriated over this, Jayant sent  filthy and threat-for-life messages to her mobile through WhatsApp number. On February 12,  the girl lodged an FIR in the Kuanrmunda  police  outpost  against  Jayant.

Acting on her complaint, Birmitrapur PS IIC DP Das arrested Jayant after an interrogation. Since  his  bail  plea  was  rejected,  he  was  sent  to  jail custody.
