A student went missing while taking bath at the sea beach here on Saturday. He was identified as Abhishek Pandey of Bihar and had come to visit Puri along with his friends who are his fellow students of the Bhubaneswar-based CIPET.
The students were bathing in the Bay of Bengal near Chaitanya Chhak in front of Swargadwar crematorium. While his friends returned to the beach, Abhishek was bathing in the sea alone. He was swept away in the strong current and went missing.
Though Fire Brigade personnel launched a frantic search for the missing student, Abhishek is yet to be traced.
In separate incidents, seven persons including some Bengali tourists were rescued from drowning while bathing in the sea by lifeguards.
