The Nayapalli police in the city on Monday arrested an engineering student from Khandagiri for allegedly blackmailing a girl with her obscene photos.
Sources said the accused Debi Prasad Pati (20), a resident of Indipur village in Kendrapada district, had been in a relationship with the girl and clicked some obscene photos of her during the period. Later, he started extorting money and valuables from her by threatening her to upload the photos on social media.
The girl had given jewelleries of her family members to the accused. The entire episode came to light after her parents found the valuables missing.
Acting on a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother Amitav Patnaik, police apprehended Pati. Five gold chains weighing 28.75 grams, gold earrings weighing 10.26 grams, a pair of gold bangles, a mobile phone and cash worth Rs 10,000 were seized from his possession.
