End child labour, says CACl

Published on:

Demanding eradication of child labour system in the country, the Campaign against Child labour (CACl) on Thursday formed a human chain in front of the Raj Bhavan here on the occasion of the Anti-Child labour Day. In the morning, activists and children led by CACl convener Sudhir Sabat formed a human chain and peaceful dharna demanding implementation of the Child labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2012 in the country.

Sabat, quoting census report, said India has around one crore child labourers including eight lakh in Odisha. He said the State Government has identified 1, 58,000 child labourers in Odisha in 2011. Though four years have already passed, the Government is yet to identify child labourers in the State, he added. Sabat said both the State and the Centre have to work unitedly by taking all Government and private agencies together to address the sensitive issue.
