A complete volume of encyclopedia Jnanamandal in Odia language was handed over to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the State Secretariat here on Wednesday.

Jnanamandal editor Dipak Kanungo and Managing Director Dr Alok Kanungo, on behalf of the Jnanamandal Private limited, handed over the complete set of encyclopedia to the CM.

Thanking the organisation for its effort, Patnaik said the Odia encyclopedia is a major endeavour. Youths, students and researchers would be benefited by the complete edition of the encyclopedia, he added.

Noted freedom fighter Binode Kanungo, who was a close friend of Biju Patnaik, had singlehanded started preparing the encyclopedia in 1954. He prepared the Jnanamandal in about 40 subjects during his lifetime. Currently, data have been made available in about 4,000 subjects in the encyclopedia.

In view of the present requirement, all the subjects like science, literature, technical knowledge, medicines, history and culture as per alphabets have been placed in the encyclopedia.

Notably, the encyclopedia was released on Wednesday, which marked 26th death anniversary of Binode Kanungo. The Jnanamandal would be digitised on the occasion of the Biju birth centenary, the organisation said.

During the launching programme, School & Mass Education Minister

Debi Prasad Mishra and linguist Arabind Patnaik were present.
