The postal operations were completely affected in the State as nearly 25,000 employees from all the 30 districts joined a two-day nationwide strike beginning from Wednesday. Postal employees in the city locked the main gate of Post Master General’s office here and staged demonstration in front of it demanding fulfilment of their 15-point charter of demands.
“We are demanding implementation of Seventh Pay Commission recommendation from January 1, 2014 instead of 2016 and retirement benefits such as gratuity and pension among many genuine demands. As the Union Government is yet to respond to our repeated requests, we have been forced to resort to cease-work agitation,” said All Odisha Postal Employees’ Association president Rabindra Nath Dhal.
