Demanding appropriate salary fixed by the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, members of the Odisha Cooperative Employees’ Coordination Committee (OCECC) staged a demonstration in front of the State Assembly here on Monday.

The OCECC members led by its president Harish Gaurang came in a procession and staged the rally at the lower PMG protesting the delay in fulfilment of their five-point charter of demands.

The committee said the State Government is hatching a conspiracy to close the Cooperative Societies in the State, which is a complete violation of the Cooperative Societies Act.

According to Gaurang, Minister for Rural Development and Cooperation Bikram Keshari Arukh had assured them to take appropriate steps in fulfilling their demands before November 30 last year, but the promise is yet to be met.

The employees also demanded medical treatment facility, provident fund and gratuity fund facilities, increase in the retirement age to 60 years and promotion in time. Among others, Abhimanyu Nisank, Ghanashyam Jena, Digambar Nayak and Sridhar Choudhury participated in the rally.
