The Nesco Shakti Karmachari Sangha (NSKS), a union of the power distribution company employees of north Odisha, including Baleswar, Bhadrak, Mayurbanj, Jajpur and Keonjhar, demanded audit of the accounts of the company by the CAG.
Association general secretary Niranjan Padhiary alleged that due to unholy nexus of some top level officials with other agencies and companies, the power distribution company, now the Reliance, was suffering huge losses and as a result the latter was trying shift the burden onto the consumers by tariff hike. Padhiary, in a Press statement, said that the company showing loss of Rs4,200 crore has approached an appellate tribunal for hike in the tariff. “The Reliance company is trying to enhance tariff without any capital investment,” he charged.
“In several projects, the companies which were given works through orders had left the work halfway. Several of them, mainly the ones in Jajpur district circle, have caused huge losses to the Nesco. Yet, the authorities of the Nesco did not adjust the loss amount from their bank guarantees. Instead of taking the companies to task, the Nesco showed them favour. The major works of the company such as spot billing, maintenance and revenue collection have been let to the franchise companies who are committing scams. Therefore, an independent audit by CAG can expose all the scams,” he said.
