Eminent writers witness release of 'Jau Kandhei'

Grief and fear has always influenced human behaviour. A poet is one who can find the threads of courage and pleasures of life in these adversities. At a book release function here recently, critics expressed the view that a poet should, therefore, be accepted as the second version of the Creator.

Jau Kandhei, a collection of poems by Amita Pattanaik and published by lark Books, was released in the presence of eminent writers, poets and intellectuals. Well-known poet Sanjay Pattanayak, who is the Director of the Satyajit Ray Film and TV Institute under the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting was also present.

The function was presided over by litterateur and former Director General Police Sarat Chandra Misra. Poet Ramakanta Rath, who was the chief guest, observed that poetry flows from the sublime experience of love and inspires the poet.

Writer Dr Prafulla Kumar Mohanty, former Principal, Ravenshaw College, Cuttack, stated that only a poet can succeed in projecting happiness in all environments of grief. To present truth in its true form is, however, always a challenge.

Authoress Amita Pattanaik briefly narrated about the various aspects of her and her creation, especially her first poetry on the bird Haladibasant that skillfully narrates the anguish of the eternal wait of the little bird for its companion which never happens. Instead, a spider comes in and weaves a web depicting the imagery of Draupadi’s Bastraharana in the epic Mahabharata. The function concluded with a vote of thanks by another passionate literary person Mahendra Nath Mishra on behalf of lark Books.
