A 10-year-old elephant calf that had accidentally fallen into a pit near Godisul on Friday night was rescued with the joint efforts by the Forest personnel, fire brigade, police and locals on Saturday.
The baby tusker fell into the 10-feet ditch while a herd of around 100 pachyderms, to which it belonged to, was being chased away from the area by the Forest department people.
“After nearly three hours of struggle, the baby elephant was rescued. The jumbo was well and soon joined her mother after being taken out of the trench,” Wildlife Warden Aswini Das said, adding, “Besides the local villagers, Sabuja Bahini members also took part in the operation.”
