The State Election Commission on Monday notified the schedule for holding elections to two more urban local bodies (UlBs), Phulbani Municipality and G Udaygiri Notified Area Council, both in Kandhmal district.

The polling would be held on December 2 and the results would be announced on December 3. The Model Code of Conduct came into force with immediate effect in the limits of the concerned UlBs with the issuance of notification and would remain in effect till December 3, the SEC said

The formal process of elections will start with issue of notice by the concerned Election Officers on November 11, following which the filing of nominations will commence. The last date of filing of nominations is November 16.

Scrutiny of papers would be conducted on November 18 and withdrawal of nomination papers and publication of list of contesting candidates have been fixed on November 21, the SEC said.

The elections to the posts of Chairman and Vice-Chairperson would be conducted on December 9 and 30, State Election Commissioner Ajit Kumar Triapthy said. Voting would be conducted through EVMs. While 50 per cent of the seats would be reserved for women candidates, SEBC would get 27 per cent reservation.

As per the poll code, no contestant belonging to any political party can deliver speech which would hurt the religious sentiments of a particular community. Candidates might be barred to contest if they resort to violence in order to spread fear among voters. Earlier, on October 21, the SEC had notified for elections in 22 of the 25 left-out UlBs spread over nine western Odisha districts.
