In a stunning incident in Gop block of Puri district, an 82-year old woman moved to a toilet to spend her last days in life after she was cast off by her children. She has four sons besides half a dozen of grand sons and daughters but none was willing to take care of the old woman.
After she was neglected by her sons, she had no place in the house than choosing a toilet life. Earlier, she was staying with her elder son, but for last two months, she is in a toilet. The reason is none of her sons offered a space in their houses after the division of her properties among them.
With shares, the sons chose their own ways leaving the octogenarian mother stranded in a hell. The woman who is in the last leg life is completely unable to move. She said, after her husband died, she took a great pain to bring up her children. But they abandoned her, said woman in her shaken voice.
The woman was identified as Dhani Mallick of Saulia village, about 35 km from Puri town. The toilet she was staying in, was allotted to her elder son by the Government under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Looking at the shameful incident in the village, residents complained against the family members and took it up to media for actions from administration. Getting information, Gop Tehsildar Prithviraj Mandal swung into action by immediately directing to his officials to spot and rescue the old woman.
Mandal said he would personally look into the incident and talk to social security officer for rehabilitation of the woman in a shelter home.
He will first talk with her sons to keep their mother with them, Mandal said, adding that action will taken against them if they don’t take care of the old woman.
