A couple and their son were killed by unidentified miscreants at Silati village under the Binika police station in Subarnapur district on Wednesday night.
The deceased were identified as Bulu Bhoi (65), his wife Baidehi Bhoi (55) and son Shiva Bhoi (25).
While Shiva was found lying dead outside of the house, bodies of Bulu and his wife were found in the house by locals on Thursday morning.
On being informed, police reached the spot, sent the bodies for post-mortem and initiated an investigation. It is being suspected that the trio was killed with sharp weapons as the bodies bore grievous injury marks.
However, the motive behind the brutal murders was yet to be ascertained. A relative of the family said the family members led a simple life and had no enmity with anyone in the village.
Further investigations were underway by the police, who have questioned a number of locals.
