The Hirakud dam authorities on Tuesday opened eight more sluice gates following incessant rains, both upstream and downstream, leading to a flood-like situation in the villages downstream.
With the opening of the eight sluice gates, the total number of gates opened at the reservoir stood at 22. The water level in the Hirakud reservoir touched 610.21 feet by Tuesday evening while the full capacity of the reservoir is 630 feet. The inflow of water to the reservoir was around 3.82 lakh cusecs and the outflow about 3.45 lakh cusecs.
