The police on Saturday night arrested eight notorious criminals at Chhatia under the Badachana police station in Jajpur district for their involvement in many crimes in Jajpur district and other parts of the State, said Jajpur Road Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Bipin Bihari Mallick on Sunday.
The criminals were identified as Rishikesha Barik (31) of Salepur, Gayadhara Tarei (21) of Salepur, Santanu Behera (20) of Badachana, Deepak Samal (31) of Salepur, Uttam Samal of Salepur, Biswajit Jena (20) of Badachana, Jahir Khan (23) of Mahanga and Harekrusna Rout (54) of Mahanga.
The police seized three pistols, two live bullets, three Bhujalis, five mobile phones and one kilogram of gunpowder from them. They were planning to loot a transport company, added the SDPO.
On Sunday, the criminals were produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) at Chandikhol. The court rejected their bail applications and remanded them to jail custody.
