Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, was celebrated with joy and fervour across the State on Wednesday.

Muslims came out of their homes to offer special Eid congregational thanksgiving prayers marking the culmination of 30 days of fasting. After offering Namaaz, they hugged each other with greetings of “Eid Mubarak”.

People of the community dressed in new clothes greeted each other and distributed sweets after performing Namaaz. Hindus also joined in the celebrations in many parts of the State to mark the day with a show of harmony between communities.

In Bhubaneswar, Namaz was offered at several mosques including the Unit-4 Masjid where thousands of Muslims gathered for the prayer. Similar scenes were witnessed at mosques in the millennium city Cuttack and other parts of the State.

The festival was observed with offering sweets, sweet dishes, biryani and varieties of food items to friends, relatives and others after holy prayers in the morning.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also greeted people on the occasion.
