After a landslide victory, the BJD has started efforts to elect the president of the ZillaParishad. This time, the post of president has been kept reserved for women.
Out of the 18 zones of the district, nine seats were kept reserved for the women candidates. And women candidates of BJD have won in all the nine reserved zones. Hence, it has become a Herculean task before the party as regards selecting the president and that too, from among educated women members.
Further remarkable is that a maximum number of women candidates have been elected from Rairakhol constituency where ErRohit Pujari is the MLA. When all the eight out of the total nine women are new, only KumudiniNayak from Bamara Zone-2 under Kuchinda constituency has been elected for the second time and is hence considered as senior or experienced in rural politics.
Similarly, TanmayaDharua was the Sarpanch for two consecutive tenures and this time she got elected as ZillaParishad member. For her remarkable works and dedicated services during Covid crisis, she has been felicitated by the Government.
PriyambadaSahu was the Samiti member last time and this time she is the new ZillaParishad member. She was also the Sarpanch for a complete tenure. And this is her third time victory. Another important factor is CholashreeMahananda is the election champion of the district as ZillaParishad member as she defeated her nearest rival in BJP by 15,314 votes. While Mahananda got 21,526 votes, her rival in BJP has to be satisfied with just 6,212.
Education wise, all are also sound unlike others in women politics. There are even Post Graduates among them. One Sujata Khuntia, elected from Jamanakira, was a teacher before entering politics.
Hence, the leaders of the party, its two MLAs and district observer ErNalinikant Pradhan are very carefully considering whom to elect as the president.
“We will take a right decision after consulting with all the leaders and elected members,” Er Pradhan, the observer said.
