The Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) on Sunday witnessed an informative and thought provoking session on the investment climate in India and the subsequent opportunities it presents.

Five eminent speakers from the RBI, SEBI, Bhubaneswar Stock Exchange (BSE) and other organisations shared their valuable inputs. The discussion revolved around topics like inclusive growth, investor confidence, the role of the Government and regulatory bodies in the country, the large current account deficit, the depreciating rupee, liquidity crunch, high volatility in the market, taxation issues, ever-rising subsidies and the Government’s disinvestment policy.

The panel discussion was moderated by XIMB Strategic Management Adjunct faculty Prof Anshuman Tripathy. SEBI Joint Director Dr Sarat Kumar Malik kicked off the discussion by delving on the present state of the Indian and global economy, the investment climate in India and measures taken by the RBI, SEBI and Government of India to boost investor confidence.

BSE Chief Executive Officer Debaraj Biswal said it is the 35-crore-strong middle class population of India who are driving its economy. XIMB alumnus and Quadria Investment Management managing partner Srinivas Baratam laid emphasis on four parameters for investors — clarity, consistency, fairness and long-term direction while investing in a country. AK Sabat and Co business partner Arun Kumar Sabat took pot-shots at the present state of affairs in the corridors of power and pointed out that nearly 125 Bills are lying in Parliament to get its consent. RBI, Bhubaneswar Regional Director PK Jena said, “While we wanted change, we didn’t want to be the agents of that change.”
