Enforcement Director (ED) Special Director Yogesh Gupta and DIG of the CBI’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) D Bagchi arrived here on Wednesday to prepare a blueprint for the next course of action of the probe into the chit fund scam in the State.
A day after the CBI conducted simultaneous raids at 18 places in connection with the Seashore Group link, the CBI DIG’s visit has created fear among the bureaucrat and political circles for their involvement in signing memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with the Seashore Group.
Bagchi, who arrived from Kolkata, went through the voluminous incriminating documents seized during the raids conducted by the CBI on Tuesday in the State, New Delhi and Mumbai. After going through the papers, sources said, he would frame the future plan of the probe in consultation with the local CBI officials.
Sources said Bagchi discussed with local officials about involvement of politicians and bureaucrats who had helped the Seashore Group to spread its wing across the State. He also went through the documents seized from Rajya Sabha member and Odisha Jan Morcha (OJM) chief Pyarimohan Mohapatra on Tuesday for his alleged link with Seashore.
Similarly, the ED Special Director also discussed with his officials here about the people whom the ED would send summons for interrogation into money trails of the chit fund companies.
Notably, the ED officials had already questioned Pyarimohan Mohapatra on Monday regarding his alleged link with Seashore Group chief Prashant Dash.
