The East Coast Railways (ECoR) has bagged the Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant Best Zonal Railway Shield-2015 for all-round performance among all the zones of the Indian Railways. The ECoR has won the shield, a very prestigious honour for any zonal railway, for the second time. Earlier, it has bagged the shield for all round performance in 2008.
The shield, instituted in the memory of freedom fighter and former Union Minister late Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, is given every year to a zonal railway, whose performance is adjudged to be best amongst all zonal railways.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu would give away the shield to ECoR during the Railway Week National Award Function to be held on April 16. Notably, the ECoR has loaded 173.49 million tonnes freight in 2015-16 financial year, an increase of 7.1 per cent over last year.
