Even though Chilika-side villagers suffered no damages due to the Cyclone Hudhud yet most of them spent sleepless nights as a rumour of an earthquake hitting the area spread through mobiles on Sunday evening. According to sources, the water level of Chilika had swelled and heavy rains occurred in the area amidst thunder and lightning during the storm. “While people had already been frightened by this natural fury, spread of an earthquake rumour forced them to spend the night sleeplessly,” said locals.
The people felt secured only when dawn broke and the Government authorities started shifting evacuees back to their houses on Monday morning.
