Eagle attack stops city Masjid repair

Published on:

Persistent ferocious eagle attacks on workers engaged in repair work of the Jama Masjid at Unit-4 here have stalled its renovation for the last two years.

The largest Masjid in the capital is in need of repair as its four minarets have developed cracks. Workers have been called from Kolkata for the job.

On Thursday, no sooner the workers had started work in the minars, eagles closed in and started their attack, not once or twice but 10-12 times, according to onlookers.

Such virulent attacks by eagles on workers are responsible for no progress in repair work for the last two years, according to mosque sources.

The workers were seen running for cover and the work was stopped again. A crowd gathered around the Masjid to watch the eagle attack. Khordha District Honorary Wildlife Warden Suvendu Mallick said the Masjid authorities have been advised to instal a mesh net around the mosque roof to protect the workers.

If any eagle gets entangled in the net then help of the Forest Department can be taken to rescue them, he added.
