The State Government has decided to introduce an e-Prison Management system for automation of the prison operations. About `5 crore would be spent for this innovative project which would be contributed by both the Centre and the State Government.
Home Secretary Asit Tripathy reviewed the system developed by NIC here on Thursday. The system will create a centralised standard information database of prison inmates regarding their identification, offense and other details.
The presentation made by ADG Prisons SM Narvane revealed that e-Prisons Management System will also record information regarding visitors and hearing of cases regulary. Besides, management of work allocation, parole and furlough details will be maintained by the system. Prisoners’ movements would be tracked and their grievances redressal mechanism would be made active. Now these are handled manually through files, which is not only cumbersome but also time taking.
Data of last 10 years will be digitised and placed in various modules prepared by the NIC, Bhubaneswar. The solution would help increase the transparency in the system, said a senior official. Two high-power committees would be formed for Governance of the system. The Directorate of the Prisons will convene meetings of the committees at regular interval.
