The All Odisha lawyers’ Association (AOlA) has decided to negotiate with the Government to set up e-libraries in all the Bars across the State.
The decision to expedite establishment of e-libraries was taken at the 43rd annual conference of the association held at Keonjhar recently. “We are aware of decline of professionalism in the law profession over years. Besides, lawyers need to rise up to face challenges of the 21st century. In this context, capacity building of lawyers is the need of the time. E-libraries will certainly help lawyers stay updated about new developments in the profession,” said State Bar Council member Bibhu Prasad Tripathy, who was elected as general secretary of the AOlA.
Gyanaranjan Mohanty was elected as president of the AOlA. The annual conference was attended by 2,000 lawyers, who also elected the AOlA’s executive committee members. Tripathy said corpus fund for lawyers’ welfare would be raised to Rs 5 crore and the State Government would be moved to release the matching amount. Besides, there was consensus of implementing long-term proposals for establishment of lawyers’ clubs and an advocate academy.
