As per a move, women would not have to face apathetic attitude and embarrassment at police stations in Bhubaneswar any further when they go there to lodge complaints. The State Government now plans to launch ‘i-click’, an electronic grievance registration system.
Chief Secretary JK Mohapatra and other senior officials have approved the newly-procured ‘i-click’ machine after observing its functioning at the Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC) here on Monday. The machine would be placed at several important public
places in the city.
The first-of-its kind in the country, the i-click kiosk facility is likely to be launched next month under the Bhubaneswar Commissionerate police jurisdiction, sources said.
Officials from the Bangalore-based manufacturing company demonstrated the functioning of the electronic complain registration gadget. After the presentation, the Chief Secretary, the DGP, the Home secretary, the WCD Secretary and the IT Secretary approved it, said OCAC sources.
The machine would be placed in small kiosks akin to ATM booths for women complaints exclusively. The centre would be equipped with all electronic gadgets like camera, voice communication set, internet and scanner. The complainant would be able to register her complaint through voice interaction with police personnel sitting at the control room, scan copy of the FIR or e-mail. Each kiosk would be connected to the police control room. Once the operator sitting at the control room receives a complaint, it would be forwarded to the concerned police station.
The computer at the kiosk is enabled with three languages Odia, English and Hindi. In case anyone is not able to write her grievance; the operator would do the job for her. A complainant can also take the help of the police personnel posted at the kiosk. “We will soon identify the places where the kiosk will be set up,” a senior police official said.
