Odisha-born international athlete Dutee Chand has occupied the prestigious cover story spread in this month’s India edition of the world’s largest-selling fashion and entertainment magazine “Cosmopolitan”.
Chand is seen dazzling on a running track sporting a multicolored ruffled layered cape draped on her sportswear. She has also spoken to the magazine about her career as a sportsperson.
The magazine has termed Chand as “India’s Shining Star and First Openly-Gay Athlete”.
Notably, Chand has been in news as the first Indian sportsperson to reveal that she is in a lesbian relationship with her “soul-mate”. She had gone through mental trauma after she was dropped from the 2014 Commonwealth Games under the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) rules on hyperandrogenism. She had moved the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne against her ban notice. Later, the IAAF withdrew the rules, allowing her to return to sports events.
