Dusmanta case: Commissionerate police take over investigation

Published on:

The Commissionerate police on Saturday launched a probe into the death of Dusmanta Das, who had attempted suicide by slitting his wrist and consuming poison in front of the State Assembly on Wednesday over alleged negligence and denial of treatment. The investigation of the case which was initially carried out by the Kujang police station in Jagatsinghpur district has been transferred to a police station in Cuttack on Saturday. “The mother of the deceased had earlier lodged an FIR at the Kujang police station. However, the Commissionerate police took over the case as the death occurred under its jurisdiction,” said Commissioner of Police Soumendra Priyadarshi. The deceased’s mother in the FIR alleged that her son was killed and he didn’t die by suicide.“How can my son go to Bhubaneswar when he was not in a position to properly walk? He was taken by some people to the State capital and li given pesticide to commit suicide,” she stated in her complaint.  The SCB Hospital authorities in Cuttack, where Dusmanta was allegedly turned back without proper treatment, have refuted the charges of any medical negligence or denial of access to treatment.
