Five youths lodged complaints with the Capital police station against SR Overseas, a consultancy based in the city, for duping unemployed youths of lakhs of rupees in the name of promising better jobs in foreign countries.
The youths led by Kailash Chandra Dethi (26), a resident of Hurasahi in Kendrapara district, staying at Unit-4 of the city, alleged that consultancy’s managing director Sunil Kumar Rath cheated them of Rs 6 lakh by promising to give jobs in a shopping mall Park Way Paryde in Singapore.
Kailash stated that Rath, a native of Beguniapada in Ganjam district, was running his consultancy at Ganganagar in Unit-6 here. He had taken the money from them between March and May 2011, but Rath failed to keep his promise. When the youths asked for their money, Rath reportedly gave an assurance to return the money, but cunningly changed his phone number.
Rath had charged them around Rs 1 lakh each for Visa and other purposes and assured of monthly salary of more than Rs 65,000 per month in the shopping mall. Besides, many others got cheated by the agency, Kailash added.
“After taking money to provide salesmen and supervisors in shopping malls in Singapore, Rath had sent us to Bangalore. He had given me a visa confirmation letter, but it was not genuine,” alleged Kailash, seeking intervention of the Commissionerate Police for return of their money.
