Daruthenga villagers on Sunday gave a two-day ultimatum to the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to take a final call on the garbage dumping issue in their locality even as they removed the road blockade on the Barang-Chandaka road following a meeting with police.
As many as 51 truckloads of garbage were unloaded at the Bhuasuni dumping yard amid tight security.
Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) Additional Commissioner (Enforcement) Bhabani Shankar Chaini hoped that the locals would cooperate with the BDA in setting up of the proposed waste treatment (into energy) plant near their village.
“I hope that normalcy will prevail in the area very soon,” he added.
The villagers, on the other hand, have decided to continue their agitation in a peaceful manner till the BMC shifts the dumping yard and the proposed waste treatment plant.
“We had assured the DCP yesterday that we would continue our peaceful agitation and remove the blockade from the road. And we have removed the blockade today,” said one of the Daruthenga Village Peace Committee members.
He said the committee would meet the BMC Commissioner in a couple of days, after which the committee would decide its next course of action.
