A drunken man allegedly hacked to death a 10-year-old boy at Bhataguda village under the Thuamul Rampur police station in Kalahandi district on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Anil Majhi, son of Ghasiram Majhi. According to sources, the accused, Jaysingh Jani (42), attacked the minor boy with an axe when he was playing near his house. The accused, a habitual drunk, also shot an arrow at the deceased’s elder brother, Debanand. Another person, Tama Jani, also faced the wrath of the accused when he rushed to the rescue of Debanand. On being informed, police officials rushed to the village and arrested accused. A forensic scientific team and dog squad from Bhawanipatna also arrived at village on Thursday to investigate. Though circumstances leading to brutal murder are yet to be ascertained, preliminary probe suggested that it was done out of anger. There were instances in past when accused picked up quarrels with others in an inebriated condition.
