Drug peddlers to be banished from twin cities

The Commissionerate police, concerned over the unabated flow of drugs into Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, have decided to banish the habitual drug peddlers from the twin cities.

Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty on Wednesday said police have prepared a list of the habitual drug peddlers, who despite being arrested a number of times, carry out the illegal trade.

Notably, the police seized nearly 850 quintals of ganja and over one kilogram of brown sugar in 2018 and arrested as many as 120 persons under the NDPS Act in 2018.

In the State capital, the Haldipada slum has turned out be a hub for narcotic items like brown sugar. Though the police have made many seizures and arrested a number of persons, the trade continues with the arrestees, after their release from jail, again peddle drugs in different locations in the city.
