The Baleswar police arrested a 33- year- old youth on the charge of killing his 48-year-old aunt on Monday night.
The accused was identified as Ashok Behera of Mulanagar village under Sadar police limits and the deceased was Purnima Chand of Tulanksahi.
The accused, a drug addict, knocked at the door of the victim in the evening when her husband and sons were away. The moment she opened the door, the accused tried to snatch her gold chain from her neck and when she resisted, he attacked her. With grievous injuries, she was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) by the neighbours, but there she succumbed to her wounds.
The accused while trying to flee was nabbed by the villagers. He was thrashed and then handed over to police.
The police could learn there were four other accomplices with accused Behera. After registering a case under Sections of 302 and 34 IPC, the police have carried out further investigation, said IIC Sadar Dayanidhi Das.
