Drive out fear to tackle exam stress

Published on:

Calendar months March, April and May are supposed to be considered as months of examinations and students along with their parents are under stress normally.

Considering this aspect, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a session in the month of February 2018 and addressed the important issue i, e, examination stress on students. The basic reason for this is nothing but fear of examination.  This attacks most of the students and under this stress, those who are weak, become victims of fever and suffer from vomiting, nausea and loose motions etc.

The word ‘examination fever’ has been specially coined for this disease. Even students study and prepare well become nervous, and spend sleepless nights at the time of examination. It is due to lack of confidence, haphazard study habit, and addiction to smart phones, social networking sites etc.

Here lies the solution to examination fears i.e. studying right from the beginning of the year systematically. Now a days, the minds of the students are disturbed by the various electronic devices like internet etc. It is apparently harmful towards concentration of mind. A regular, disciplined student need not fear examination. Yet fear is inherent in man. So with all your studies you may experience fear. There are possibilities of fear gripping the mind; lazy students become panicky as soon as the exam knocks at the door. As a result of that students forget all lessons at the time of examination. It is this fear that makes them confused to write the answers. Therefore, it is important to root out the fear complex lurking in the minds of the students, by acquiring self confidence with disciplined study, applicable for all types of students.

The term ‘self confidence’ means that faith in your own strength –‘faith in studies’, ‘faith in yourself’, without having any further attachment to private tuition or to coaching  centers. These organisations generally spoil the creativity in students’ mind.  The strong conviction would support the students to write the exam well with a calm mind. If it is developed then exam fear vanishes and enthusiasm springs up.

At the end, we have to remember the famous sayings of swami Vivekananda that “Secrete of success is concentration.”
