The Child Rights and You (CRY), a national-level organisation, launched ‘Vote for Child Rights’ campaign in the State on Thursday aiming at reminding political parties and Governments in power of undertaking measures to protect and promote child rights.
Announcing the launch of the national level election advocacy campaign at a Press conference here, CRY (East) general manager Mohua Chatterjee said, “This is our attempt to remind politicians and Governments in power
of their obligation to undertake all measures in protecting and promoting child rights.”
Chatterjee also released a children’s manifesto and outlined 10 suggestions for the political parties, including harmonising the age-old definition for all child related legislations, ensuring the implementation and expanding the scope of right to education, strengthening the implementation of ICDS, reducing child mortality and declaring access to quality primary healthcare asa a fundamental right, among others.
The campaign was launched at the national level on November 13 last year and has already touched 23 States of the country so far.
CRY has its networks in 12 districts in the State, but it will try to take the campaign forward to other districts, said CRY operation in-charge Ashis Sarkar.
