A month-long drive was started from Wednesday to make Brahmapur city polythene-free following the approval of a proposal to make the city polythene-free at a BMC Council meeting recently.
After Ganjam Collector Premchand Choudhury gave emphasis on a cleanliness drive, the BMC and the district administration became active in this regard.
All the vending zones were declared as no-polythene areas.
Additional Collector Bijay Dash, Brahmapur Sub-Collector laxmi Kanta Sethy and BMC Commissioner Susanta Kumar Mishra had on Tuesday gone to the city vending zones and instructed the businessmen not to use polythene.
Notably, the district administration has formed a 15-member team to supervise the drive in different wards of the city. Higher Education Minister Pradeep Panigrahy, who belongs to Ganjam, and local MP Siddhant Mohapatra had also discussed on the issue on October 18.
