To enhance awareness on the child rights and end child sexual abuse, an awareness campaign began here from Thursday. A van which would be moving to different blocks of Baleswar district was flagged off by Sadar MLA Swarup Das.

Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Chairman Bhagirathi Nayak and Councillor Sashirekha Mohanty and coordinator of the event Ubachak Mohanty were among others present.

The campaign was sponsored by NACC, EVAC, PECUC and World Vision.  The van would go mainly to five blocks, Sadar, Remuna, Bhograi, Jaleswar and Baliapal. It would display video messages and sponsor street plays involving SHG, Anganwadi Workers and girl children. Information pertaining to the girl child rights and enforcement provisions would be disseminated among the stakeholders; besides they would be educated the basics about bad touch, good touch; and in case they face any sorts of abuses whom to inform etc.,” said Mohanjty.

The child protection workforce capacity building programme aims to end child sexual abuse in India. A German-funded programme is currently running only in six centres in Odisha as pilot projects for three years where the period and programme may be extended to other districts of Odisha and the other States of India also depending on the success of the programme, he added.
