To make Odisha alcohol-free, the Milita Odisha Nisha Nivaran Abhiyan (MONNA) and many other organisations began a historic campaign against alcohol at Hinjili, the Assembly constituency of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, on Sunday.
This campaign would cover all the constituencies in Odisha and activists would keep creating awareness against alcohol consumption till October 2, the 150th Gandhi Jayanthi. A massive signature campaign would be undertaken to mount pressure on the Government and political parties to implement 1957 Nisha Nivaran Act in the State, said Bibhu Prasad Sahu.
MONNA president and former MlA Padma Charan Nayak, former MlA Harihara Sahu, Rajendra Dalabehera, Kishore Patra, Bibhu Prasad Sahu, Kanhu Behura, Aparna Mam, Kuresh Maharana, Priyadarshi Patnaik and a band of social activists joined the campaign.
The members demanded a complete ban on both sale and consumption of liquor in the greater interest of the mankind. The Government should give focus on revenue generation but discharge its moral responsibility of protecting and safeguarding the interest of mankind, they said.
