With a view to provide a healthier and safer living condition in the clusters of the rag pickers, Practical Action, an international organisation, unveiled a campaign here last week.
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Sanjeeb Kumar Mishra called it an innovative initiative. He pointed out constant fall in life expectancy in areas like dump yards where rag pickers live and called for convergence of efforts of different Government departments starting from labour, Health and Urban Development to Women and Child Development for mitigating the problems of the women and children and providing them access to minimum amenities. Initially, seven slums have been covered under the drive on pilot basis.
