Dreaded criminal Subas Naik alias Andala was injured in a police encounter near Tamada Ghat under the Golanthara police limits in Ganjam district early on Monday morning.
Acting on a tipoff, police laid a trap near Tamada Ghat. While the hardcore antisocial and one of his associates were passing through the Ghat, the police personnel intercepted them, after which Andala opened fire at the police.
In retaliation, police too opened fire at him injuring him in his left leg, following which he fell on the ground.
While police nabbed Andala, his associate managed to flee from the spot. Andala was admitted at the MKCG Medical College Hospital here.
The cops seized a firearm and three bullets from his possession. Notably, over 17 cases are pending against Andala at various police stations in the district.
This encounter was the sixth one in the past two months after Ashish Singh took charge as the Brahmapur SP. Singh is also in the charge of Ganjam police district SP.
