Drain water enters houses: locals block city road

Published on:

Upset over the lackadaisical attitude of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in sorting out their issues, a large number of locals of Amrapali and Saswat Vihar in the Sailshree Vihar area blocked the Damana-Nandankanan road on Saturday afternoon. Vehicular movement on this route was disrupted for some hours as the agitating locals demanded immediate solution to the issue of drain water entering their localities.

“The drain water starting from Chandaka industrial estate area is entering our houses and submerges our roads for last many years. Despite our repeated request for solution the civic body is yet to construct a drain to divert the passage of drain water,” rued a local. Meanwhile, the BMC officials assured of effective measure once the model code of conduct enforced for the ongoing polls is lifted.“We can’t announce anything right now. We assure that the remedial measures will be taken soon after the model code of conduct is lifted,” said a BMC official who rushed to the spot to pacify the agitation.
