Acting on a dowry death complaint, police on Saturday arrested a man and registered a case against five persons in Kusapur Panchayat under Balikuda block.
According to sources, Sasmita Swain had tied knot with Alok Swain, four years back and the bride’s family had given reasonable dowry during marriage. However, Sasmita’s in-laws insisted her to bring Rs 50,000 more from her parents.
As it was not possible, Sasmita came under the wrath of her in-laws, including her husband, who started torturing her and on Friday night, Sasmita was found dead on her residence under mysterious circumstances.
The deceased’s father Basanta Behera lodged an FIR at Anantapur outpost on Friday stating her daughter had been killed by her in-laws as he was not able to fulfill their demand for Rs 50,000.
Police seized the dead body and sent it for post mortem. Sasmita’s father-in-law Babaji Swain was arrested. Further investigation is on.
