Demanding stringent action against the culprits of his daughter’s murder, Pitabas Behera of Jangapatna under the Jagatpur police limits in Cuttack district submitted a memorandum ro the State Commission for Women (SCW) here on Monday.
Behera along with his co-villagers led by Utkal Bharat members handed over the memorandum and alleged that the police were yet to take action against the other culprits.
Behera’s daughter Rajashree alias Rita had married Muna Behera of Praharajpur under the Kishannagar police limits in the same district on March 8 this year in full Vedic traditions. During the marriage, Rita’s in-laws had demanded Rs 50,000, a cot and a Godrej steel almirah, which could not be afforded by her father.
Behera had managed to give Rs 30,000 along with jewelleries and home appliances. The in-laws tortured Rita and threatened her of dire consequences for not fulfilling their demands. They even got her first pregnancy aborted, Behera said, adding, “She was killed on September 29.”
Though the police have arrested two persons, Behera and his co-villagers demanded arrest of others involved in the murder.
