The Jagannath Sena, a local outfit, has urged the Odisha High Court to direct the State Government not to shift Puri bus-stand to the eight-km distant Malatipatapur area and to issue suitable orders.
Through a Public Interest litigation (PIl), the Sena has also appealed to the High Court to order the Government to stop construction work and cutting of trees in the proposed site in the interest of the Puri locals as well as public in general.
The petitioner informed that the State Government had in 2009 decided to shift the bus stand from the present Shree Gundicha Mandir area to either Mangalaghata area or to Samangapata before Nabakalabar to be held in 2015. These two areas are near to the Puri township and have adequate Government land that can be used for the purpose, said the petition.
The HC has accepted the petition and issued notices to all concerned.
