leaders of several Hindu religious institutions like the Shree Jagannath Sanskruti Suraksha Vahini, Jagannath Sena, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Sachetan

Nagarik Parishad have urged the State Government not to play with religious feelings of Hindus.

They have urged the Government to implement the suggestions of Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati in letter and spirit in the matter of climbing of chariots and touching the deities as the seer is the final authority on such issues. The Government should not politicise the chariot climbing issue, they warned.

The Government had sought the seer’s opinion on the issue and he, after consulting all religious texts and scholars, submitted his opinion to the Government; so, the Government has no option but to implement it, they said.

The Government initiating further debate by politicians to appease a section of the temple servitors is unethical and against the tenets of the Hinduism, they said.
