Don't pay power bills until CAG audit: BJP

Published on:

The BJP on Thursday exhorted electricity consumers not to pay the hiked electricity bills until and unless the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) conducts audit of the power distribution companies.

The party would provide legal assistance if the Cesu disconnects electricity connection to any household after nonpayment of bills, informed State BJP spokesperson Sameer Mohanty.

Earlier on the day, more than a thousand of BJP workers took out a procession from the party office here to the Cesu headquarters in protest against the power tariff hike and staged a demonstration before the Cesu office demanding rollback of the tariff hike and CAG audit of the power distribution companies.

The party leaders opined that due to the Government’s soft attitude towards companies, dues of Rs7,098.78 crore are yet to be collected from the Reliance company and stern action should be taken against officials who are responsible for this.

later, two senior officers of the Cesu office held discussion with the agitators and assured them to take necessary steps towards fulfilling their demands.
