The power tariff may cost Rs3.20 more per unit in domestic sector in the State from April if the proposals of the power distribution, generation and production companies are accepted.
The proposals of a tariff hike were given by electricity producing, purchasing and distribution companies to the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) during the week-long public hearing on proposed power tariff hike which concluded on Thursday here.
Sources said while the Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) has proposed to increase per unit power tariff from the present 82 paise to Rs1.43 for the financial year 2016-17, the Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC) has also proposed a hike in production cost of power per unit from the existing Rs2.20 to Rs2.82 per unit.
Similarly, the GRIDCO and the OPTCl have also urged the OERC to increase their costs per unit from the existing Rs2.84 to Rs3.62 and 25 paise to 35 paise, respectively. Besides, the distribution companies (Discoms) also proposed a tariff hike of Rs1 per unit citing aggregated technical and commercial (AT&C) losses.
“The companies have put their proposals of hike before us. The OERC will take a final call after discussion with all stakeholders, including the State Government and consumers. We will take a decision by March end this year,” said OERC Director (Regulatory Affairs) Priyabrata Pattnaik.
Meanwhile the Orissa Rajya Bidyut Upavokta Mahasangh has opposed the power tariff hike proposals.
