A case has been lodged at the Kharavel Nagar police station here against a law Department Under Secretary and his wife for abusing and physically torturing a teenage girl working as a maid at their house regularly for last few years.
According to reports, the top officer Bhagaban Prasad Sahoo and his wife Rasmita Sahoo had been physically torturing the 12-year-old girl.
“They both tortured me mercilessly. They used to beat me with stick and whenever I made mistake while doing something. Even they tortured me by beating me in hot iron rod,” said the victim a resident of Kusupur under Gopa police station in Puri district.
The girl, who ran away from their house on Saturday, was located by a PCR van, which rescued her and took her to police station.
“A complaint has been lodged against the law Department Under Secretary and his wife at the Kharavel Nagar police station in this regard. We are now verifying the issue. Stringent legal action will be taken against them if found guilty,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi. Meanwhile, source said the officer is not coming to office since the matter come to fore while his Government quarter is closed.
