Doctors to hold monthly review of patients' deaths

To improve the facilities provided to patients admitted to the Capital Hospital here, the authorities have directed the heads of all the departments for a monthly review of deaths occurring in the hospital.

At a meeting held at the Capital Hospital on Thursday to review the patients who are dying during treatment, the authorities emphasised on the basic facilities to be provided to the patients right from the day of their admission till death.

The hospital staffs have been asked to give primacy to the conditions of the patients who are being brought to the hospital for treatment rather than asking for their addresses, said Capital Hospital Director Dr CR Das.

It is up to the doctors to accept the patients according to whether their conditions are critical or not. If a patient dies in the hospital, the doctors would look into the cause and mistakes that led to the death, Dr Das said.

By monthly reviews of the death of patients, the treatment provided in the hospital would be improved, he added.

Notably, around 100 patients die every month in the hospital while undergoing treatment.
